Gaming Review: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Campaign)

uncharted 3 headerI don’t mean to brag, but when I was little I was decent at climbing trees.  I mean, I would get at least 10 feet off the ground.  Ok, so that’s not that grand, but I had sensitive hands, and bark is all scratchy…  The point is that for people with childhoods like mine, living vicariously through characters like Monkey (play Enslaved: Odyssey to the West if you haven’t), Altair, and Nathan Drake in all their platforming glory is the way to go.  Goodness knows I don’t actually want to fling myself at a building. Open Thread – Games: A Scarier Format Than Film?

condemnedLauren: With Halloween coming up just around the corner, now is the time to up your yearly dose of horror infused entertainment.  Personally I love the genre, but films are one thing, while video games are something else.  They are the killer sharpening his blade in my closet while he softly, albeit menacingly, whispers my name in a promise that the covers I hide under provide no protection from what is to come.  That may seem like quite the elaboration on the terror level provided by games, but anyone who has played these games can tell you that there is just something about them that will haunt you hours after you have set the controller down. Gaming Review – Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Though this is not far removed from other “cover, shoot, repeat” games with your random vehicle chases and wall climbing, it is definitely the most fun I have had doing exactly that in a long time.

The great thing about Uncharted is that no aspect of the game was sacrificed for the benefit of something else. The story worked great for a game of this genre, and it is well supported in every aspect. I never felt irritated when I was taken out of the control position and replaced with cut scenes because they were beautifully animated.   [Read more...]
