Now Playing Review – Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Whether you’re a fan of Transformers or Michael Bay, there is a strong likelihood that Transformers: A Tribute to Michael Bay will not disappoint you. However, if you are a fan of quality film making, then maybe it’s time to finally skip out on the Transformers series.
Okay, so most of you probably know that the title I gave in the intro isn’t really the name of the movie, but more on that later. Transformers: Dark of the Moon takes us back to the Apollo 11 moon landing, and as films sometimes do it tells a story that doesn’t quite stick to the history book version. Don’t worry, the Transformers don’t go kill Hitler or anything (yes I do realize Apollo 11 happened after WWII, but I am more than willing to go out of my way to reference Inglourious Basterds). Anyway, during the war on the alien planet Cybertron, home of the transformers, an escaping Autobot ship crashes into the Earth’s moon, spurring the space race on. Long story short decades pass, digging up the secrets buried surrounding the US trip to the moon. [Read more...]
Review: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Michael Bay returns to the robot fighting business and the results are a gorgeous, long winded, and many times pointless adventure that didn’t really learn anything from the first film’s short comings.
Sam Witwicky is about to head off to college. Two years removed from his last adventure with the Autobots and Decepticons galaxy spanning battle for survival. The Autobots are now part of an elite global team called NEST and they travel the Earth looking for the remaining Decepticons hiding on our planet. Meanwhile, Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela are preparing for a long distant relationship as she stays behind to help keep her dad on his feet since leaving prison. As he packs, Sam finds a shard of the All Spark from two years earlier in the sweatshirt he was wearing and when he touches it something happens to him that he can not explain. Meanwhile, Optimus Prime and company take out a pair of Decepticons in hiding and learn of a plot for a “return of the fallen.” Sam is off at college for merely a day, and experiences some weird symbol visions to boot, when Bumblebee, his first car and protector, shows up from home and takes him to see Optimus and they discuss that a war is coming and that Sam and the humans may be at risk. From here, the Decepticons plot begins to unfold and Sam is sent on the run to protect the information in his head that he doesn’t quite understand. [Read more...]
Review: 'Eagle Eye'
The new film from D.J. Caruso is a solid action/spyish/thriller that would have done better service to itself if it had just been a bit more original.
Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is a Copy Cabana employee, he is struggling to make rent, and he has just found out his twin brother has died. Rachel Hollman (Michelle Monaghan) is a divorced mom who has just sent her son on a school trip to play a show at the Library of Congress. The two have never met and have no relation but are about to spend the next 48 hours on the run for their lives, and the lives of others. Jerry becomes activated when he goes to the ATM to deposit a check from his parents only to find his bank account full of thousands of dollars. [Read more...]
Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones returns to the screen in a mostly successful film and another solid addition to the franchise. Spielberg, Ford, and Lucas all collaborated and agreed on a film that they all wanted to make and the end product successfully evolves our hero with a little bit more ware and tear and a few more years added on but maintains that same awe and wonder of the character who ultimately is out to discover, adventure, and do good.
We open with Indy under capture by a group of Russians infiltrating Area 51 in the Nevada desert in 1957. Led by Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) she is looking for the remnants of a crash in Roswell a few years prior that will help the Russians unlock the ultimate weapon through a possible mind control plot. COOLEST DVD EVER!!!!!
So it’s Tuesday, which means its time to buy some DVD’s. There were two on the menu today, the Two Disc Transformers and the second part of Grindhouse: Planet Terror.
I decide to go to Target today to buy my movies, which is a bit odd for me as usually you will find me at Best Buy, but boy am I happy I did. I go to get the Two Disc of Transformers and I realize they don’t have the one I want, they have some exclusive, for 2 dollars more that is probably nothing more than a simple DVD with nothing important on it. I hate when they do these add-on’s and then don’t have anything worthwhile on it, and then they charge extra, store exclusive things should be the same price unless its really something specail; off the soapbox. So I quickly double check and find they don’t have a non-bonus version, so I contemplate just buying it or driving and spending the two dollars i would save somewhere else easily in gas. Then I notice, it is not a bonus DVD, it is special packaging. Which can be cool, like with the steel book DVD cases(which Best Buy had an exclusive on for both Grindhouse titles, but charged Extra!!) but this was even cooler.
THE DVD TRANSFORMS INTO OPTIMUS PRIME!!! [Read more...]
