Gaming Review – Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
For weeks now Playstation 3 owners have known what it is like to be Scott Pilgrim while the rest of us (I am including me because of my achievement whore status) have had to sit and live vicariously through the film and books. Now with the recent release on the Xbox 360 Arcade everyone can feel just how epic it is to live as Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
This game is no different from any incarnation of this story in that the player will work through seven levels with one of Ramona’s evil exes acting as a boss to defeat before moving on to the next. However, this time around instead of just fighting as the title character, now Ramona, Kim, and Stephen are playable as well. All four stay true to the spirit of their respective characters with hints at personality traits and signature moves to lash out at the throngs of thugs with, evolving more as they level up throughout the progression of the game. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World vs. The Comic vs. The Adaptation vs. The Video Game
That’s right! We are back with a new round of questions and answers, this time taking of the ever evolving universe of Scott Pilgrim in order to celebrate the film’s release this weekend (and just how awesome Scott Pilgrim is in general). And this time things get “heated.” Read on to find out why.
SPOILERS AHEAD, SO ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!
The Double Feature: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Kung Fu Hustle

The Double Feature will take a look at a new release title in theaters (well, most of the time) and pair it with a film you can create a double feature with after you get back to the comfort of your living room.
Sometimes it will be obvious, other times not so much but I hope this gets you thinking about some other good double features of your own creation. The double feature is a bit of a lost art if you ask me, and while I am no expert at them I love figuring out a couple good films to play together.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Prequel!
So Cartoon Network has animated a brief prequel segment for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which goes into Scott and Kim’s high school romance. The animation is pretty simple but captures Bryan Lee O’Malley’s panels almost frame for frame as you can find this segment in the beginning of Vol. 2.
This scene was probably one of my favorites in the books and one I sorely missed in the film. Now we have it here though and this kind of makes me wish they would do this to the whole series! Come on Universal!
Now Playing Review – Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Taglines on movie posters are iffy things. They are there to grab your attention if the image on the poster can’t pull that off on its own, with words that are supposed to get you excited as it toots the horn of the film that might not deserve to even have a horn capable of being tooted. Just look at the tagline for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which claims that the movie is “An epic of epic epicness.” Pretty big tooting going on right? Wait… Anyway… This is definitely one of those times that the tagline gives the right amount of hype that the film deserves. It is indeed of the epic proportion.
Scott Pilgrim takes its story from a series of graphic novels created by Bryan Lee O’Malley (go read them now!), and it goes a little something like this: Scott Pilgrim is dating a high schooler until one day a girl named Ramona Flowers comes along and becomes a strong infatuation for him. Eventually they start dating, but in order to keep dating her he has to do much more than your average Joe. You see, Ramona comes with the baggage of leaving a trail of victims in her wake, seven evil exes to be exact. Now Scott Pilgrim must defeat all of them to get his happily ever after with her. Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a kinetic, and often times perfect, adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s fantastic comic series and is a movie that is unlike almost anything you have ever seen.
Scott Pilgrim is a nice guy, but he can be kind of a dick, and rather oblivious, but ultimately he is dating a high schooler. Knives Chau, she’s Chinese. The two pow around Toronto, nearly holding hands, and maybe even hugging once; it is easy, safe, and comfortable for Mr. Pilgrim. That is until Ramona Flowers enters Scott’s dreams; literally. And before he even knows it Scott meets Ramona in real life and he can’t help himself but be drawn to her while he quickly begins half-assing his relationship with Knives. Scott enters a sticky love triangle with the two that is only further complicated by the appearance of the League of Ramona’s Evil Ex’s whom he must defeat in order to win her heart.
Comic-Con International 2010 – My Experience in Nerd Heaven
A couple of weeks ago I excitedly told my aunt that I was going to Comic Con in a week, with a big ol’ smile on my face. I didn’t really expect her to be jealous, but I was overly excited. Then she asked if it was a gathering of comics or something. As in comedians. I then proceeded to try and explain that it was this really cool event that happens each year that has been taken over by Hollywood in the past decade or so. Basically it has everything a nerd would desire to see, including comics, writers, artists, video games, tv shows, and movies. I told her about the panels I was planning on sitting in on and some of the people that were scheduled to attend. I was adamant about making her see how awesome it was, but she just didn’t get it. Color me deflated. Oh well, I guess Comic Con is just for certain people…

Suggestion Box (June 14 – 20)
Last week there wasn’t really anything to report movie trailer wise, so I decided to skip the suggestion box all together and just go with a special E3 Edition. But this week the usual is back. YAY!
Movies:
Conviction Trailer – A true story about a woman who becomes I lawyer after her brother is wrongly (?) accused of murder. Check it out here. (Side note – can movie trailers stop using the musical scores from The Island? Thanks)
Flipped Trailer – Nothing like a childhood crush. Check out the trailer here.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World International Trailer – Some stuff you have seen before mixed with a bunch of stuff we haven’t. Check it out here.
Suggestion Box (May 31 – June 6)
Movies:
Gulliver’s Travels Trailer – Honestly I wasn’t quite sure about this trailer. I actually enjoy a lot of what Jack Black does, but I still wasn’t so sure since I have already recently seen a movie with a giant guy surrounded by tinier people (that would be Night at the Museum. Or that childhood movie with the little cabinet thing that brings action figures to life…anyway). But then Emily Blunt shows up post Gulliver going through the Bermuda Triangle, and as sad as it is to say, that is what sold me. I have no idea why, and it could honestly be for the simple fact that I just watched Young Victoria and the trailer for Adjustment Bureau, who knows. Check it out for yourselves here.
[Rec]2 Trailer – I didn’t know this when I saw Quarantine, but that was actually a remake of a foreign film called [Rec], which is now getting a sequel. If you liked the American version like I did (or were cooler and saw the original), then give this trailer a gander here.
Suggestion Box (March 22 – 28)
Movies:
Accidents Happen Trailer – Oooo… Look at the slo mo… Okay, this movie about an accident-prone family and how they cope with it looks to be pretty interesting all around, but it had me hooked a couple seconds into the trailer with the slow motion baseball rebound… Check it out here.
Despicable Me Trailer – All right, with this trailer it is finally possible to get an idea of what the story of this animated film is actually about. Check it out here.
The First Avenger: Captain America – Okay, I guess technically this isn’t a suggestion so much as a news related rant… But looks like Chris Evans will be playing Captain America. Though I love him because he is hilarious and, let’s face it, quite dreamy, I don’t understand why superhero films recycle their actors so much. It may be hard for many to remember judging on the opinions of the Fantastic Four films, but Evans has already played a superhero with the Human Torch, another Marvel character no less. And the same can be said for Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in Wolverine and is now not only getting a movie based on that character, but is playing the Green Lantern as well. He is also one of my favorites, but this is going to start to get confusing in my comic book based characters universe… Any thoughts?

Scott Pilgrim Film Breaks from Books After Third Book?
MTV says so, well actually Edgar Wright tells MTV so, and for fans of the books that might be a tad disappointing if not for all the raves coming out of the two test screenings that have been done over the last couple months.
