With a fall season shooting out some big name video games and an important World Series for STL fans, the Cardinals, Batman, and Nathan Drake have been keeping me a little too busy to slip some movies in. Ok, there might have also been a Teen Wolf marathon on MTV at some point… However, with those games in the bag (for the most part) and the Cardinals coming out the victors, it is now time that I get back to watching some rentals. The latest from DreamWorks Animation is one of their lesser efforts that don’t work on almost every level outside of the pretty solid 3-D.
Susan Murphy is about to get married to her ‘weather man with a plan’ that has them moving up to the big time in no time. After getting some unexpected news that she is moving to Tucson instead of Europe for her Honeymoon, Susan is hit by a giant meteor that crashed to earth after hurling through space from a far away exploding planet. Susan some how walks away from this and heads to the alter; only to grow into a giant woman that busts out the ceiling and walls of her church ceremony. The government quickly responds and takes her away into confinement in a top secret facility for monsters where she meets B.O.B. the blue blob, Dr. Cockroach (a mad human scientist that turned himself into a cockroach), The Missing Link (a creature from the black lagoon like beast), and Insectosaurus a 300 foot tall furry insect looking monster. In the mean time, an evil alien warlord, Gallaxhar, sends a giant robot probe to earth to search for a precious substance that composed the meteor that crushed Susan and made her grow to what she is. Ed Harris directs another solid entry into the new era of Westerns and it fits right in with 3:10 to Yuma and The Assassination of Jesse James in terms of both quality and entertainment.
Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) is a well to do entrepreneur and gang leader in the New Mexico Territory and he is confronted by a Marshall and his deputies with the need to arrest a couple of his men for the rape and murder of a couple in the town of Appaloosa. After Bragg displays his inability to part with his men, he shoots the Marshall and Deputies dead when they try to apprehend his men, and that is where our story begins. [Read more...]
George Clooney’s latest directorial effort is a pretty entertaining affair, if you know what to expect going in. And what should you expect you might ask? The movie is a throwback homage to the screwball comedies of yesteryear and does an excellent job of capturing the spirit and fun of those films.
Set in the 20′s where college football was king to pro football’s washed up game and presentation, George Clooney play’s a lifer of the league, Dodge Connelly, who attempts to revitalize the all but failed league by signing college super star and war hero Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) to play for the Duluth Bulldogs.
