Here’s a little thought about console exclusiveness. When a game is released solely onto one console (I’m ignoring PCs cuz I’m a Mac person and PCs scare me) it sucks. Boasting ensues, lines are drawn in the sand and suddenly we’ve got a full on battle over which console is the best among the fans. For those of us claiming to be Switzerland and not donning the uniform of either the XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 more money must be doled out to add whichever console is not already plugged into our home entertainment system. I know personally I wasn’t going to be able to survive without playing the Uncharted series. Besides, the PS3 can be written off as a Blu-ray player, making that purchase a pretty smart investment in my book. Unfortunately, not everyone can do this. [Read more...]
PS3 Players Rejoice! Mass Effect 2 is Finally Here
Gaming Review – Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC
Throughout the Mass Effect series there have been many elusive presences in the galaxy, none more so than the Shadow Broker (the Illusive Man falls short on a spelling technicality). Thankfully with the new DLC for Mass Effect 2, titled Lair of the Shadow Broker, we are finally getting some answers about this mysterious character. [Read more...]
Gaming Review – Mass Effect 2: Overlord DLC
The last playable DLC for Mass Effect 2 (Kasumi’s Dream) didn’t exactly cause any mass faintings due to how excited people became while playing, but with the DLC Overlord we are definitely getting the tingles. [Read more...]
Suggestion Box (Aug. 30 – Sept. 5)
Looks like it is another week full of awesome gaming videos and far too few movie trailers. We’ve got a trailer for The Freebie, and videos for the games Brink, Hydrophobia, the new Mass Effect 2 DLC, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Portal 2, and Vanquish.
Movies:
The Freebie Trailer – A film in which a couple (played by Dax Shepard and Katie Aselton) toys with the idea that it would be okay if each was given a free pass to pursue a one night stand with someone else.
Suggestion Box (March 15 – 21)
I don’t know what was going on this week because usually there isn’t too much that catches my eye, but I was overwhelmed with things to be excited about this week. Maybe it is just because I had a lot more free time on my hands…
Movies:
The Greatest Trailer – Looks to be a touching movie following a family after they lose their son to a car accident and then are introduced to the girl that he got pregnant right before his death (wow, that was a really bad right up. Just watch the trailer!) Check it out here.
The Predators Trailer – The only stuff I have seen involving the predators involves them being vs. aliens, so I say the series can only go up from there for me. With that in mind, this film does actually look like it has the potential to be a decent action flick, so check it out here.
The Switch Trailer – Jason Bateman swaps out Jennifer Aniston’s artificial insemination swimmers. Check it out here.
Gaming Review – Mass Effect 2
A few years ago BioWare opened my eyes to what RPGs could really be like with the first Mass Effect, a game that wasn’t hard to love. It created a massive universe with humans as the babies of the species still needing to prove themselves among a broad group of alien races that were all fleshed out with histories, cultures, and lives of their own. Putting our best foot forward with a military man named Shepard, he hunted the galaxy in the search to better integrate our species into this vast universe, fighting off a major, life-altering threat in the process. With the release of the greatly improved second game in the series Shepard is back, proving that it takes much more than death to keep him from standing at the helm of another larger than life adventure.
Following an epic battle to save the Citadel at the end of Mass Effect, the Normandy deserves a little pleasant “tra la la” time out in space. Instead, the crew is spending their time searching space for the reason behind why other ships are going missing. Thinking it to be a simple mission, things quickly travel up the intensity scale when a giant ship comes out of nowhere and attacks them. With the hull being torn apart around them, Shepard orders the evacuation of the crew, staying behind to help Joker escape, who he eventually manages to get to an escape pod. [Read more...]
Q&A Review – Mass Effect 2
Below you will find a Q&A between Lauren and myself in which we had a casual conversation over Mass Effect 2 and what we liked and disliked about the game, or expectations going in, and our outlook on the future of the series. So take a look if you are a fan of the series or gaming after getting pumped with one of the best video game trailers in recent memory.
Suggestion Box (Jan. 11 – 17)
Final Fantasy XIII International Trailer – I am not one with the patience to play a turn based RPG, but I will sit next to someone and watch them play the whole game if it is anything like this trailer. Check it out here.
Mass Effect 2 Planetary Exploration Dev Diary – Here are just some more ways that the sequel is one-upping the first game of the series. Check it out here.
Suggestion Box (Dec. 14 – Dec. 20)
Alice in Wonderland Trailer – Well it’s not quite what I expected, but that should be expected from Tim Burton. Check it out here.
Iron Man 2 Trailer – So what happens when a superhero reveals himself to the world? Check it out here.
Robin Hood Trailer – He may not be an animated fox, but Russell Crowe being angry and violent is hardly anything to scoff at (especially considering he is back with his Gladiator director, Ridley Scott, for this). Check it out here.
Mass Effect 2 Blur Trailer – Check out this sneak peak of a full-length version being released tomorrow on XBOX Live. Check it out here.
Suggestion Box (Dec. 7 – Dec. 13)
Batman Arkham Asylum 2 Debut Trailer – It has been confirmed (not surprisingly) that there will be a sequel to this years Arkham Asylum game. Check it out here. On the same train of thought, a sequel to last year’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is also in production.
Mass Effect 2 Voice Cast Reveal Video – Not that the Mass Effect franchise isn’t enough on its own to have anyone who loves sci fi geeking out, but this cast is ridiculous. For me, the Battlestar Galactica and Chuck people were enough to send me over the edge, but there are plenty more people in here to get excited about. Now if only I could get Morgan Freeman into one of my games… Anyway… Check it out here.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Trailer – It has a great look to it and some spectacular computer graphics, but I am going to have to dock it some points for Nicholas Cage… Check it out here.
