Gaming Review – inFamous 2 (PS3 exclusive)

As far as I am concerned controlling electricity is not a power I would want to possess if I had my pick because I don’t plan on forgoing showers anytime soon.  Good thing this isn’t The Sims and hygiene really isn’t a concern to Cole, the protagonist reprising his role in InFamous 2.

At the end of game one I happily went about my business running around the city I had just saved from immediate danger, collecting trophies that did not unlock during the main story, gleefully exercising my leveled up powers.  Needless to say I might have created a false sense of calm that did not quite fit with the actual ending of the story.  So color me aghast when at the start of InFamous 2 my playground of Empire City is wiped off the face of the Earth by a human-shaped goliath of a volcano.  What!? You say I was warned about the coming of “The Beast” in the final moments of the story?  My bad.  I was probably too busy looking at a pretty pretty blast shard in the corner of the screen… [Read more...]

Suggestion Box (July 5 – 11)

Movies:

The Loved Ones – As the school year comes to an end something at the top of most girls’ lists is a date to the prom.  Apparently some girls are willing to go much further than others to get what they want.  Disturbingly far…  Check it out here.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer #2 – There are so many things working against this film: 1 – It’s the fourth (live action) film in a series that has had its ups and downs.  2 – It looks like it is “stealing” heavily from The Matrix (which I personally am more than happy to see since The Matrix was an amazing movie, so shut your faces haters).  3 – It’s in 3D.  But you know what, I would not count this one out yet.  Sure, having this many sequels sometimes leads the feeling that a franchise just doesn’t know when to die (stupid phrasing for a zombie franchise), but I know that I really want to see what happens after the cliffhangers of the third film.  And 3D matrixy moves blended with zombies sounds like a good time in my opinion, and with what looks comparable in this trailer to the portions of what I saw my roomie playing in Resident Evil 5, this could be a film that competes with the first film to be the best in the series.  But I won’t count my chickens just yet.  Check it out here.

Suggestion Box – Special E3 Edition

If you aren’t a nerd then you probably had no idea that a major gaming and electronic convention was going on during the beginning of this week.  Then again, you probably aren’t reading this post either because of that same reason… Hm… Well then, since no introductions are in order, let me just dive right in.

This year’s main events at E3 can be more or less summed up by what the three big hitters (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) had to show off at their conferences.  To sum up, everyone thinks they are the best in the biz, the one to do it first, the one to bring the best and newest technology to the masses… Blah blah blah.  Tooting their horns aside, all three can be summed up as follows: motion controls, exercise, sports, 3D, and a new 250 gb XBOX 360 (I write that last bit glaring at the 360 I have now, which is the result of 3 separate red ring incidents).  Now you know everything you need to! …  Just kidding.  Well, partially.  If you want to get a full break down of the press conferences of the big three then be sure to check out Zac’s write up here.  As for me, well, I am all about the gaming aspect of the show.  Which brings about this glorified Suggestion Box.  Here is what I was excited by:

Suggestion Box (April 26 – May 2)

Sorry for the late posting (cuz I know all of you have been like: “What the heck Lauren!  It’s long past the 2nd.  Where my recommendations be at fool?”  That’s right, that’s how people talk in my mind), but the end of a period in one’s life can get a little time consuming.  So I am a little backlogged, but on the bright side your anticipation can grow for the upcoming rental reviews of An Education (really good) and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (heck no), and a gaming review of Halo: ODST (pretty good).  Ooo, so exciting!

Movies:

Buried Teaser Trailers – This simple trailer isn’t much to look at, but it is a nice way of introducing the premise of the film.  And Ryan Reynolds, ooo…  Check it out here.  But if you are more for visuals, check out the original teaser as well here.

Jonah Hex Trailer – A trailer has finally been released for this supernatural (to what extent, I’m not sure) western, and it’s looking pretty interesting.  And ooo!  Will Arnett!  But I really want to know what the little blurbs I have been reading mean by the bad guy releasing “Hell on Earth.”  We talking demon apocalypse or something?  Check it out here and decide for yourself.
