Dissecting Prometheus: Unanswered Questions

Prometheus came out on Blu-ray yesterday, go pick it up, and I assume those of you that missed it in theaters might want to check out our previous write up on the mysterious of the film.  So here is a nice re-post!

Lauren and I both enjoyed (her review & my review) Prometheus this weekend and one of the better elements of the film is that it leaves a lot open for the viewer to dissect and discuss while we wait for the, hopefully, potential sequel. [Read more...]

Film Review: Prometheus

Prometheus HeaderAfter seeing Prometheus it is easy to find meaning in why they chose this name for the film (and ship).  For those of you who don’t know about this titan in Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods to give to humans, something that he was torturously punished for.  And here, we have a group of people traveling through space looking for knowledge to further their understanding of the universe and life.  Comparison drawn, now time for these people to suffer. Review: Thor

Thor is arguably in the running for the best Marvel movies yet and is a pretty much non-stop blast of action, fun, and humor from start to finish; lead by star making turns by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

Thor is a god, and the future king of Asgard, that wields a powerful hammer that only elevates his abilities to being the greatest warrior in the Realm.  As Thor’s anointment ceremony is about to be carried out Asgard’s ancient enemies, the Frost Giants, attempt a sneak attack to recapture an ancient weapon that King Odin took from them a millennium ago.  Thor, Loki (Thor’s brother), The Warriors Three (Volstagg, Fandral and Hogun) and Sif head off to the Frost Giants home of Jotunheim to confront their leader Laufey, hoping to set the Frost King straight. After the inevitable battle on Jotunheim, Odin has to step in with Thor being banished in the aftermath of the battle.  On Earth, stripped of his powers and hammer, Thor finds himself wrapped up in the lives of a team of scientists who hesitantly help to find him to find his way again.

Review: The Losers

The Losers is a fun, funny, throwback action film that never lets up and features great work by the solid ensemble cast that is obviously having a blast and brings us in on all the fun.

The Losers is a band of CIA operatives that get hung out to dry on a black op gone wrong.  They get the name of their turncoat, Max, and fake their deaths waiting for a chance to enact revenge for trying to kill them.  The group is waylaid by a rouge vigilante with a vendetta of her own on Max and she gives the Losers a bank roll and way back into the U.S.  From here the film takes a globe trotting approach as the Losers try and track down Max and foil his evil plan.

Review: RocknRolla

Guy Ritchie’s return to form in RocknRolla is a crazy, fun, and always cool look at crime in London, and while it might seem like re-tread territory to some, it is so damn entertaining that one should ask, why should we care?
To begin to explain this convoluted and twisting plot from the get go would be a bit of a pain, and Archie (Mark Strong) does a good job of keeping you in the loop as he narrates everyone’s comings and goings, but I will try my best to sum up here. Lenny (Tom Wilkinson) is a big wig crime boss in England that makes his money in property and twisting his connections into his favor. So when One Two (Gerard Butler) and Mumbles (Idris Elba) come to him with a lucrative property proposition, he gets in their way of a loan, and gets them to owe him money as well; all while he turns on the fast track to acquiring the property himself. To help fund this property, Lenny turns to Uri (Karel Roden) a Russian entrepreneur who is trying to get in on the property boom of London like many other “immigrants” are, and Lenny offers his contacts and connections at the cost of 7 million Euros. Uri eagerly agrees and offers his lucky painting as a sign of gratitude to Lenny and assures him that his (Uri) accountant (Thandie Newton) will be able to produce the money in little to no time. Well as you can imagine, things don’t go necessarily to plan and things become quite intertwined and a whole mess of trouble for everyone brews before the end. [Read more...]

Review: American Gangster

Keys to a great movie? Ridley Scott, check. Denzel Washington, check. Russell Crowe, check. Larger than life and wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t true story, check. Now all of these are thrown into one movie, and what comes out is absolutely fantastic. I do not have a single complaint about this movie and can not recommend to you enough to see it. But it was missing just that little something to make it special and absolutely amazing. [Read more...]
