It’s funny what massive popularity does to a band. Seemed like only yesterday a little band called Paramore broke out big with their smash “Misery Business” back in 2007. That would lead them to do a song for the Twilight soundtrack, which generated a massive amount of hype for their ’09 certified gold album Brand New Eyes. Fueled by Ramen are becoming a very impressive force in the world of pop-alternative music. From last year’s success of fun., plus their other diverse acts including Paramore, Gym Class Heroes and Panic! at the Disco makes them a rather large tour de force. It’s funny what a couple of well placed television spots can do for a band. Before Glee covered it, and way before it was used in a Super Bowl commercial for the Chevy Sonic, fun.’s first single “We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)” was just another promising track that got buried beneath the mainstays of the alternative rock scene. Now, both the original single and the Glee cover have reached #1 on the iTunes charts respectively, and Nate Ruess and company are becoming everybody’s new favorite band; jumping on their increasingly fast moving bandwagon. Remember last year, when Travie McCoy broke off from his friends in Gym Class Heroes to release his first solo album Lazarus? If you don’t, then you must remember his first single “Billionaire (feat. Bruno Mars)” at least. That song became a theme for 2010, as almost every sort of radio station just put that song on loop. With an incredible catchy hook (“I wanna be a billionaire, so f#$%!*& bad”) and an incredible summer feel, I thought that this would be the last stake in the heart of Gym Class Heroes, as Travie would just go and do his own thing.
