With so much of my (Lauren’s) personality constructed by Television, from PBS shows of my childhood to everything Joss Whedon that influenced my sense of humor and sarcasm, it’s no surprise that every year I get pretty excited for the pilots making their attempt to gain viewers. Not only that, but sometimes I go crazy fanatic for those shows I have come to love for seasons and seasons. Chuck is only a half season!? Community is getting shelved!? NNNOOO!!!! Good thing there are some great new shows that helped these irritated wounds sting a little less. [Read more...]

Good Ole Fashion Television Review: Terra Nova 1.10
This weeks episode of Terra Nova was called Now You See Me, but I feel that a more appropriate title would have been, cheese. Everything cool or interesting in this episode was very close to being completely ruined by this shows cheesiness. I feel like this has become a recurring event in Terra Nova. They have to have some type of event going on, usually involving Zoe and dinosaurs, that is nothing but pure cheese. It’s stupid, has nothing to do with anything else in the show and feels completely out of place. I am just down right sick and tired of these moments and they seem to be in practically every episode. They are always at the end of the episode too which is even worse because it leaves me with this pissed off feeling that makes completely forget about anything else that happened in the episode that actually was kind of cool or at least interesting. Like I said though, the cheesiness almost ruined this episode but thankfully there was still plenty of action, and it was awesome to learn Mira’s background. [Read more...]
Good Ole Fashion Television Review: Terra Nova 1.8
First off I feel like I should apologize for this write up being posted on here so late in the week. I had an eventful week to say the least, I just started a new job and this was the week of thanksgiving after all. Thankfully my new job did not require me to be at work today, black Friday, so here I am finally doing my write up on the Terra Nova episode from Monday. Speaking of thanksgiving, Terra Nova had their own celebration this week called the harvest festival. I assume this was their attempt to have something similar to thanksgiving but not quite. There was no big feast but there was a play, where they reenact the first pilgrimage into Terra Nova that was lead by none other than Commander Nathaniel Taylor. Zoe Shannon has been selected to play the lead role of Commander Taylor, and in the play Jim finds the answer he has been trying to find from the moment Boylan tells him about the body. Good Ole Fashion Television Review: Terra Nova 1.8
Terra Nova has developed into a surprisingly good show. I must admit, I was extremely skeptical when this series first premiered and it got off to a very slow start. The last several episodes have been fantastic and this weeks episode entitled “Proof” was no different. There were essentially three separate story lines running through this episode. There was Maddy Shannon who was trying to find out why her hero Ken Horton was acting so strange, and couldn’t seem to remember jokes and from his own writings. There was also Captain Taylor helping out Curran, the soldier he banished from Terra Nova, and finally there was Josh stealing what he thought was medicine for the Sixers. Josh’s story was obviously the only one that progressed the main plot, but all of these events tied together perfectly to make what has been the most entertaining episode of Terra Nova so far this season. So first off I have to say that I missed last week’s episode (episode three) of Terra Nova thanks to the ALCS. I have to work Monday nights so I record each episode on my DVR but thanks to the ALCS going to extra innings last Monday, all I recorded was the last two innings of the game and about 7 minutes of Terra Nova. TV Review: New Girl – 103
New Girl has delivered it’s best episode yet while continuing to grow, putting past relationships in the rearview mirror for our two leads, by getting our characters into more positive spaces for them to move forward. [Read more...]
Good Ole Fashion Television Review: Terra Nova 1.2
The second episode of Fox’s new series Terra Nova aired tonight. While tonight’s episode wasn’t as exciting as last week, it still had plenty of action to hold your attention. The excitement focused more on the characters and the drama between them than hostility inside Terra Nova, but that hostility was certainly not absent. It turns out that Terra Nova is not only surrounded by a treacherous jungle full of prehistoric and downright terrifying creatures, but it is also the breeding ground for one of these creatures, one with wings. Despite everything happening with these winged monsters, personal drama still took the main focus of the episode. [Read more...]
Good Ole Fashion Television: Tera Nova – Pilot
Last night was the series premiere of Fox’s brand new original series, Terra Nova. Whenever Fox releases a new television series people, myself included, are often skeptical because they seem to have a strange habit of cancelling shows that have incredible potential (Arrested Development, Undeclared, The Tick, the list seriously just keeps going) and giving seasons to shows that are down right terrible (Titus, The Cleveland Show). Unfortunately for Terra Nova, Fox has an even worse habit of cancelling new a series that is in Sci Fi genre, but all that aside Terra Nova does seem to be relatively promising.
