For Your Renting Pleasure

Dark Shadows headerAs I go through the movies of 2012 that I didn’t manage to see while in theaters, I’m starting to realize that there’s probably a reason that I chose to skip out on some.  Because once they’re seen, things like Dark Shadows and Rock of Ages can’t be unseen. [Read more...]

HST…Film Review: Argo

Lauren: In a time of war, there is nothing quite like propagandistic films to sway us in our feelings towards a certain group of people. Seriously, after the first 10 minutes of this film you will hate Iran. Wait… That’s not the point of this movie? Oh, my bad. [Read more...]

HST Reviews…Total Recall (2012)

Lauren:  For a summer jam packed with action films, Total Recall might be going for the title of actioniest.  Yeah, that’s a word.  Don’t look it up. [Read more...]

Film Review: Rock of Ages

Rock_of_Ages HeaderRock of Ages is a travesty of a musical whose jukebox musical numbers never even comes close to topping their original counterparts and I would deem at least 50% of the film unwatchable. [Read more...]

Film Review: Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

Madagascar_3 HeaderMadagascar 3 seemed like it was going to be just another pandering effort from DreamWorks, but the results are a really crazy and bizarre adventure that is pretty fun for the most part. [Read more...]

HST… Film Review: John Carter

John_Carter HeaderLauren:  Before Pandora became more than the name of a box thanks to a little film called Avatar, before Star Wars became a space opera deserving of more than just cultish, nerd admiration (I’ll include Episodes 1-3 for Zac), there was a man named John Carter who found himself fighting for the inhabitants of Mars.  Yep, Mars; just because we’re willing to explore other planets doesn’t mean we’re ready to go gallivanting around the far corners of the universe. [Read more...]

Film Review: Red Tails

Red_Tails_headerRed Tails is a long gestating project from George Lucas about the Tuskegee Airmen during WWII and the results are a good ole fashion war movie that overcomes its shortcomings through a likable cast and great action. [Read more...]

HST’s Best of 2011: Television

With so much of my (Lauren’s) personality constructed by Television, from PBS shows of my childhood to everything Joss Whedon that influenced my sense of humor and sarcasm, it’s no surprise that every year I get pretty excited for the pilots making their attempt to gain viewers.  Not only that, but sometimes I go crazy fanatic for those shows I have come to love for seasons and seasons.  Chuck is only a half season!?  Community is getting shelved!?  NNNOOO!!!!  Good thing there are some great new shows that helped these irritated wounds sting a little less. [Read more...]

Film Review: Contagion

contagionContagion is the latest from Steven Soderbergh and it is a terrifying look into what would possibly happen to our world if a pandemic virus broke out that could kill its victims in a matter of days. [Read more...]

Film Review: Drive

drive_headerI don’t know if I would go as far as Zac does by saying that Drive is the best film of the year considering just how different it is from Bridesmaids and Super 8 (my previous favorites) and thus are pretty incomparable, but I’ll call it a three way tie. [Read more...]

Film Review: Drive

drive header 2Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest feature, Drive, is the best film of the year.  Sucking you into the dark and intense world of the Driver, played pitch perfectly by Ryan Gosling, the film will not leave you anytime soon after. [Read more...]

Film Review: Contagion

contagion_headerTwo seconds prior to the movie starting a man to the far right of where I was sitting starting hacking, as if on cue.  This was followed by a sporadic slew of coughing throughout the film, followed by a general ill feeling moving through my body, throat to stomach.    These are the things you are going to notice while watching Contagion, but other than this effect on my life (and how I now notice when I unnecessarily touch my face) the movie was lost on me. Breaking Bad Gets Funny

These videos might be a tad old in internet time, a week or so, but they are new to me and show off the considerable comedic range of both of the male leads, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.  Enjoy!
