There are many words to describe the Sacramento alternative outfit K Sera. None of them are “simple.” Even with the bands first Cantos EP, you could tell that they weren’t aiming right down the middle. No, with each K Sera song to come out, you could tell that they were aiming for the stars with every note they play. And with their debut full length Collisions and Near Misses, K Sera manage to and succeeds into landing in a new musical galaxy. [Read more...]
They really need to stop putting “From the author of The Notebook” on the posters, because being constantly reminded of this is a detriment to every film that follows based on the books of Nicholas Sparks. [Read more...]

The Super Bowl is a time when fans of all teams can get together, cook up some food, and watch two teams beat the crap out of each other. And in between, we all watch and see how the million dollar commercials came out. And 2013’s commercials were all over the place, so Alan and Lauren have decided to pick their favorites (and not so favorites) out of this year’s batch. [Read more...]
No matter how popular a genre is, there always comes a point in which someone takes it too far. Take zombies – a romance between the living and the undead would definitely be that thing to push the genre over the edge. Yet surprisingly, the relationship works well. [Read more...]
Lauren: Early on, the main storyline is introduced by the crudely drawn faces of missing children canvassing milk bottles decorating the background of a impromptu witch trial. If that little detail is not even slightly hilarious to you, then Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is not for you. Granted the title probably clued you in long ago. [Read more...]
Keeping with the theme, I decided to take my own mom to the screening of Mama. I’m not sure if she’s forgiven me yet. [Read more...]
One can’t really praise nor criticize Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky without sounding redundant from everyone else. I wasn’t the biggest fan of his when his first mixtape Live.Love.A$AP when it came out a couple of years ago – mainly because I wasn’t a fan of the cloud rap type of production. But in the time it took for his long awaited (and delayed) debut album to come to fruition, the cloud rap style has grown on me a little bit. So to my surprise, Rocky was able to mix in modern to his typical hazzy flow to deliver a rather consistent and engaging listen with Long.Live.A$AP. [Read more...]

Zac: Gangster Squad is exactly what it is aiming to be: loud and violent fun, while putting to good use an excellent cast all up for the ride. [Read more...]

And as the window closes for the current gen consoles, we at HST celebrate the year that was and prep ourselves for whatever can come out of 2013. [Read more...]
